Featured Artist: Sam Farrand ~ December

Sam Farrand launched his work publicly at his successful art opening “Resonance” in Spring of 2012. With the rise of social networking, early on Sam was able to establish a few important contacts which would play a very important part in exposing his art to the art world that Sam was about to tread course in. Only after 3 weeks of his art opening Sam’s work went national having his second show one week later at an event in San Francisco, which was put on by famous visionary artist Alex Grey. The following week his work would be shown in Los Angeles. In Fall of 2012 Sam curated and directed his first art gallery in Boston featuring several upcoming and established national and international visionary artists. 2013 showed a lot of promise for Sam when he was invited to project his work to an audience of over 10,000 people on New Years Eve in Berlin, Germany. 2 months later his video project “Sacred Energy Aumetry” (SEA) was performed live for the first time in Mexico City at an international VJ conference presented by his video co-creator Nexus Visions (Ferdinand Real). The video taken from that performance went viral on youtube and received over 68,000 views in just a few days. Since then Sam has shown his work at over 35 major Music and Arts festivals from all over the US, as well as making a presence at a handful of international festivals, this large exposure of his work has helped Sam establish a world wide audience.

Sam has done commissioned graphic design work at a international level and has been the senior designer on several branding projects across the globe as well as Senior Designer/Art Director for several major Music and Arts Festivals across the North Eastern United States. Sam works with and has joined with many of the most respected long-standing organizations in his Industry and has designed almost every product imaginable from designer bed sets, hats, and fashion clothing to accessories, holograms and hydration paks — he’s even had his art featured on Fox News gracing the cover of Best-Selling author, Chris Kilham’s newest book! Having and maintaining a strong background in art and design history he continues to strive to redefine what it means to be a graphic designer and digital artist in the 21st century and is always eager to challenge the rules that conventional graphic design and art theory and principles offer. SR: In-depth realms of psychedelia, geometrical alignments, nature, and evolving phases of consciousness are present in your self-reflection. Could you elaborate on the overall intention behind your visions?

SF: My first experience that touched down in the realms mentioned was in 1998 at a rave outside Chicago, the experience I had that night was so profound I made a vow to myself that im going to learn how to present these mindscapes via digital  art… since then its been a progressive journey to show others and remind myself of whats beyond the veil.

SR: What or whom initially inspired you to place full focus on digital graphics and multimedia as a medium?  What triggered this pathway?

SF: I chose digital because of the ability to multilayer images/graphics, I didnt know how to do this with paint but I did know how to cut up photos and collage them together to make psychedelic mindscapes (psyscapes) the more I learned about the digital medium, the more I realized about the potential this could have, so it was always something I went to as my creative outlet.

SR: Asides digital art, you also have now also have a clothing line growing as well.  Are there any other projects/branches you would like to tap more into within your own reflections?

SF: Yes! I have lots of projects underway, I really want to make a Blue-Ray disc of my art animated I want it to be filled with visionary landscapes and geometries. I want each clip to symbolize the layers that make up consciousness, I want it to be a visual aid for outward and inward journeying. Another project I have is galactic cash… I Started designing this fake paper money that looks and feels like it may have come from another planet, its written all in an alien language that I made up, and depicts psyscapes, and odd symbols and secret binary codes, I want to just crumple it up and leave the money in public spaces… I want people to pick it up and wonder about what they are holding, I want to see and observe peoples reaction to it, on the galactic cash will have a hologram sticker with my logo on it adding more to the mystery. I don’t know why but I feel like something like this could make people think outside the box. Another project I have in the works is my Light Body Activation brand, which will be a brand of household goods and products based on 5th dimensional living, I have other projects too but those are the 3 that seem to be holding my attention

SR: What is the creative process like… where and how does it all begin?

SF: One thing people will notice about my work is I like to use black as a background, black for me represents the void, for me there is something mentally relaxing about starting my work off staring into this negative space, maybe its because of the infinite unbound potential that can arise from it? Generally I start off with a point of light and then just build from that, sometimes  before I start i’ll have a clear vision about what I want to create but then there are those times where I dont know what i’m going to create I just start plopping stuff on the canvas and let my spirit just guide me. Creating art is a intuitive thing, somehow the final outcome is something born from an experience I had, or it might evoke a memory in someone else, or it might be a lot of symbolism pertaining to my curent life, experiences, and inspiration. I love starting a new piece because I never really know where its going to go, sometimes Ill start with something in mind, but then it just evolves into something completly different then what I set out forth, its exciting to see what my spirit wants to show to me and others

SR: Sam, you’re an artist.  Do you see a correlation between growing yourself and growing outwardly? Explain to us the importance of tapping into the gift we all contain within us.

SF: I feel like we are all born with some sort of creative talent to sustain us. Its something you see in the animal kingdom all the time, different species of living things all have this one special thing about them that sets them apart and is critical to their survival. I feel like thats true with humans as well. I think it’s important we hold onto that because it’s a part of who we are, and it keeps us soulful and young at heart, unfort we live in a world where creativity doesnt reign supreme so I feel a lot of people grow up and forget about these talents they had when they were younger in turn forgetting about who they are…

SR: What is your goal for 2016, anything in particular you’d like to accomplish?  What’s the next step?

SF: I try not set long-term goals like that. I have a daily goal I try to go by everyday and that is to progress more then the previous day.. If I feel like I am giving 100% effort into my art everyday then overtime thats going to naturally manifest as long term growth.

Dreamtime

Dreamtime

SR: What are some progressive goals you have, on a worldwide/Universal scale/evolving phases?

SF: I aspire to do a travelling dome projection/art gallery at festivals and having an interactive website, a book and having my online store running at full efficiency but when that will all manifest I have no idea, but I try to work towards those goals everyday

SR: What are some of your rituals?  What helps to keep you aligned and balanced in the material realm?

SF: I try to practice healthy living as much as possible, I’m a firm believer of healthy body healthy mind, I also believe the enrgy you put forth affects the energy around you wether it be good or positive. I strive to act in a progressive way daily as I believe its the only way to truelly evolve. I beleive the universe is continous so with that in mind I try to be continous and mindful of that as possible. I always listen to my heart, I feel you can never have regret if you are consciously listening and letting love guide you and light your path.

Empathy

Empathy

SR: All of us who are awake have all experienced that transformational moment when it all aligns and makes sense.  When was that moment for you?

SF: I’d say I started feeling something inside of me was transforming around 2002 but the actual alignment was taking place in 2011 when I got laid off from Goodwill after working there for 6 1/2 years and shortly after that my college closed down due to insufficient funding, it put me in a position to just go for it as an artist and when I took that step of faith into the unknown the universe opened all the doors necessary for my true lifes purpose to manifest, since then its been a progressive journey of learning, I dont know where the universe has me going but I know by listening to my heart it has made the dreams that important people in my life thought was impossible to come true and has even brought me to my Twin Flame eternal wife Cate Farrand who is also a new aspiring digital artist which offers a fresh new perpsective into the inner realms

Galactic Center

Galactic Center

SR: Anything else you would like to share with us?

SF:I have nothing to add but I just want to mention again my strong beleif in progression. I think progression is important and it is crtical for the evolution of the human species, I encourage everyone who has read this far to practice progression daily and let love guide the way
